Following Jesus is the First Step

The best way to grow in our relationship with Jesus is by taking the step toward fully following Him.

We believe that each of us is on a journey that’s racing toward eternity. We all have hopes and fears that pull us in different directions as we go through our lives. We believe that Jesus is the answer to both our present lives and our future lives. We only have one life and one eternity. Which means each of us will need to answer the question: what will I choose to do with Jesus? Within our journey, we discovered that:

God is Love

Our story begins with a loving Father who created everything we see. Even you and me. He created us to have a relationship with Him, and to live forever with Him. He’s a Holy Father that sees all things—even what’s in our hearts now!

Our Sin Divides Us From God

When sin came into the world through Adam and Eve’s rebellion—it created a gap that separated us from God. That gap now exists in each of us when we’re born. The result of this gap causes each of us to be born spiritually asleep… It’s what the Bible calls: the price for sin… (Romans 6:23) which is physical/eternal death!

Jesus Died For Our Sins, Then Came Back To Life!

But God’s love for each of us is so great that He couldn’t let this gap exist any longer! So, God Himself became a man—so that—He could take our place of punishment for our rebellion and pay our eternal fine off in full! However, His death is not the end of the story… After three days, Jesus woke up from the dead, defeating sin and death, and is now sitting right next to The Father in Heaven. Jesus is the living bridge that we need to cross back over to the Father (Romans 5:8).

We Need To Decide To Put Our Faith In Jesus

Nobody is forced to accept Him as their bridge. However, the Bible says If we want the gap between us and the Father to close… if we want to be spiritually awakened… we need to simply speak out loud with the breath He gave us—that Jesus alone is our one and only King and to live convinced in our heart that—not only is He’s our Savior—but that one day He will wake up our sleeping bodies at His great resurrection (when all things are coming to an end). Once we do that, the Bible says that the eternal life of Jesus will birth a new eternal spirit inside of us (Romans 10:9-10). The Spirit of God will come live inside of us, and He will spiritually wake us up! It’s also what Jesus referred to in John 3 when He said that we must be born again. He promises that when we’re spiritually awakened—we will never again be alone, Jesus will be with us wherever we go. All He asks is that we daily love and obey Him. Jesus once asked a group of people this question: do you believe this…? Each of us has to answer that same question. If we say YES! and put our trust in Him, He forgives our past, brings us joy in both good times and hard times, and He becomes our hope for the future.

How Do I Start My Journey?

Admit to Him that you need Him… Here’s why:

"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23

Believe that Jesus died on the cross in your place and that by doing so, He freed you from punishment:

"But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5:8

Choose the gift of forgiveness and New Life by confessing the following out loud and in your own words:

"If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

If you started or restarted your journey with Jesus today, be encouraged, your eternal verdict has gone from guilty to not guilty! We know this because the Bible says:

So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One. Romans 8:1

Have you made this decision today? We’d love to continue this conversation with you.

Not ready?

You may not be ready to put your faith in God and live for Him, but that does not change how God feels about you. God still loves you and He will continue to reach out to you. God is patient because He does not want anyone to perish, including you (2 Peter 3:9). When you are ready to follow God, He is ready to welcome you.

Have doubts?

It’s natural to have some doubts about God’s existence and His great love for us. In fact, having faith in something you cannot see is not easy. The following link can help you explore your doubts, or explore more of the Bible:

Baptism

Baptism immerses us into the story of Jesus.

For thousands of years, baptism has been a defining mark of followers of Jesus. Jesus started His ministry with baptism and then included baptism in His final command to His followers at the end of His earthly ministry. When we take the step of being baptized, it immerses us into the story of Jesus. We die to all that is old and bury it under the water. We are then raised in the power of His resurrection to the new life we can experience in Him. Baptism also serves as a powerful marker in your faith story. It is a reminder of the forgiveness, freedom, and relationship He initiated with you. On some days, it is hard to really believe we are still forgiven. Some days, we find ourselves wrestling with old hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Some days, we just don’t feel like Jesus is very close. Those are the days when we can cling to that moment of baptism to remember that it’s not about what we’ve done for Jesus, but what Jesus has done for us.

If you have made a decision to follow Jesus and have not yet been baptized, we would love to be a part of that step in your faith journey!
